  • Position Summary

    This role supports the digital transformation within the EMEA Commercial Strategy team, directly supporting the VP Strategic Development EMEA. The Strategic Development Director will have the opportunity to work within a truly international environment and with a multitude of regional and central teams to help develop & implement the business strategy around digital products. The role will encompass:

    • Building strong relationships with local and central teams to ensure close liaison & coordination on commercial development
    • Commercial partnership opportunities, including roll out of new & existing products with B2B2C and D2C partners
    • Building strategic profiles of key players to identify synergetic opportunities
    • Digital business plan development & implementation
    • Regional strategic & business development initiatives

     

    Key Deliverables of the Strategic Development Team, EMEA:

    Develop & implement the commercial strategy framework for building optimal media ecosystem involving linear & digital businesses.

    • Strategic deep-dive in key markets to help develop & execute long term commercial strategy for key markets.
    • Create and manage EMEA commercial policy to align business development to strategy.
    • Support deal modelling and proposals for all key business segments (FTA, Pay TV, D2C).
    • Support internal market / deal overview decks for strategic reviews and approvals.
    • Project leadership of complex initiatives requiring management of multiple internal stakeholders.
    • Create and manage key partner / market database.

    Responsibilities

    • Working with local commercial teams to identify digital partnership opportunities related to Discovery’s digital products
    • Coordinate with the central digital teams to facilitate commercial roll-out of new products, by leveraging our existing strong network & relationships
    • Build strong & deep understanding of key players’ business and their strategic priorities
    • Identify common commercial needs across EMEA to maximise the value of our D2C portfolio, while growing the core business
    • Developing robust financial valuation models, business plans and other supporting analyses
    • Close coordination with local & central Insights teams to build strategic profiles and relevant database around key clients
    • Contributing creative and strategic thinking on projects and to challenge existing perceptions
    • Liaising with external intermediaries and advisors as required
    • Use creativity to consider analytical problems from a range of angles
    • Working proactively on tasks and assist different stages of deals with minimal supervision
    • Lead on framing and structuring of new projects
    • Responsible for the framing and structuring of new projects, helping the team articulate the right questions and challenges

    Requirements

    • Previous working experience in commercial strategy, strategy consulting, digital content player or related field
    • Full-time experience at a leading strategy consulting firm or media company
    • Team player with strong inter-personal skills
    • Strong academic background
    • Strong analytical skills to drive strategic insight (and ability to develop scenario driven models and conduct financial analysis)
    • Strong written and oral communications skills
    • Fluency in both excel and PowerPoint
    • Must be able to multi-task and have the ability to proactively manage a variety of projects and timelines 
    • Ability to work in a diverse global matrix organisation
    • Ability to adapt to change
    • Fluent English
    • Proven capability in sourcing data and conducting research
    • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
    • Experience in working internationally and second European language a plus
    • Detail-oriented
    • Passionate about working in digital and the media industry
