    Discovery Creative Sydney is the multi-award-winning in-house agency creating brand identities, on-air promotions, advertising, branded content and communications for consumer, trade and corporate use across a range of media - principally TV and digital – for Discovery’s Australia and New Zealand portfolio.

     

    Reporting to the Creative Director, the Head of Design is responsible

    for translating design briefs into powerfully effective design solutions on time, budget and brief, for all On-Air Marketing and Creative projects – from promo graphics to channel identities; choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the brand and channel objectives. They will achieve this by developing and executing creative ideas and concepts.

    As Head of Design, you will be responsible for the visual identity of our linear channel including its creation, maintenance, evolution, application and distribution to internal and external parties as required –including the maintenance of an up-to-date and accessible style-guide for all media (in collaboration with the UK team). This will involve working closely with the Creative Director to ensure brands are in alignment with network and creative strategy.

     

    The Design Lead must be able to generate holistic creative solutions that work across multiple platforms and media – to include brand identity/activation, TV, digital, social, print and PR activities; as well as commercial / brand partnerships, short and long-form content.

    Responsibilities

    • Taking briefs for on-air / motion graphic work
    • Where necessary developing, interpreting and sharing design briefs
    • Developing, presenting and executing design concepts and ideas
    • Liaising with Creative Director to ensure design solutions are in line with overall creative strategies and brands
    • Organise, update and communicate style-guides and tool kits for Discovery ANZ brands/portfolio.
    • Contribute creative ideas and design artwork for briefs, jobs and projects
    • Effectively present and pitch creative ideas and design solutions both internally and externally.
    • Act as brand champion and guardian, ensuring consistency (of brand and tone of voice) across all creative executions.

    Requirements

    • 5+ years experience as a senior designer in a media/agency setting.
    • Highly creative, able to work across multiple projects at the same time and great conceptual thinker
    • Proven track record of design experience & up to date showreel.
    • Demonstrable understanding of Discovery Portfolio / Channel brands & target audiences
    • Knowledge and awareness of contemporary creative trends, techniques, innovations and platforms.
    • Up-to- date knowledge of industry software, techniques and systems
    • Professional approach to time, costs, communication and deadlines. Team Player with helpful attitude.
    • Diplomatic, pro-active and collaborative approach essential.Some basic team management experience desirable.
    • Broadcast-quality ability in After Effects and Cinema 4D. High-level ability in Photoshop. Illustrator, InDesign and Keynote.
    • Understanding of other Post Production tools such as Premiere Final Cut Pro Studio, and graphic based editing solutions beneficial.
