  • Position Summary

    The Strategy Team works with Senior Management across International & EMEA in developing, articulating and challenging the strategy of Discovery’s global business. The team works across the highest value issues facing the company supporting strategic projects and decision making.

     

    The Strategy Team works on some of the biggest issues facing the company today and ensures we are ready for tomorrow:

    • How will we distribute our content in 5-10 years’ time?
    • Should we invest $1BN+ in Olympic Rights in Europe?
    • What Digital Products do we need to launch?
    • Which markets will continue to deliver growth in Pay TV?
    • Where should we compete in the Free to Air television market?
    • How do we maintain high growth and margins while investing?

     

    The Strategy Team works with global functions (e.g., content, finance, digital) and local market teams across our EMEA region.

    Responsibilities

    The Strategy Manager will join the small Strategy Team to work on a variety of different projects, as needed, that span all the different parts of Discovery’s business.

     

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • To support in framing and structuring new projects: being able to help the team articulate the right questions and challenges
    • To lead some discrete pieces of work independently: from design to delivery
    • To conduct research, gather input from all relevant teams and develop knowledge on relevant business areas
      • Liaise with regional and / or central teams to collate and verify data
      • Sourcing market data and conducting independent research
    • To develop robust and complex analyses to drive strategic insights
      • Build scenario-driven models
      • Support M&A transactions
      • Use creativity to consider analytical problems from a range of angles
    • To create presentations that deliver strategic insights, analyses and recommendations
      • Structure storyline flow
      • Present findings to the team and wider audiences
      • Support regular Senior Management meetings
    • To contribute creative and strategic thinking on projects and to challenge existing perceptions
    • To undertake regular reports as required
    • To support ad-hoc requests from Senior Management on emerging issues

     

    Requirements

    • Experience in corporate strategy (and / or strategy consulting); previous media experience highly valuable
    • Familiarity working with global / pan-regional businesses
    • Deep understanding of both traditional television and emerging digital business models and market landscape
    • Experience of working independently to shape and deliver work / projects
