    The Senior Director, Business Development – International Education will be a seasoned business development executive with tremendous drive, intelligence and ability. She/he will be highly motivated and have the ability and desire to have a significant impact on the future of the Discovery Education’s international business. The successful candidate will be a multi-dimensional expert who operates not only on the basis of important past experiences and relationships, but in light of new approaches and developments that occur in the education and policy market.


    Key to the position is effective collaboration with multiple cross-functional stakeholders, including marketing, customer success, professional development, and product. She/he will be passionate about the Education space and maintains a deep understanding of Discovery Education’s solutions to ensure key objectives are met, and articulates Discovery Education’s proposition to partners. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, as the International business is a growth area for Discovery Education.



    Job Description / Main Responsibilities

    • Build and maintain relationships with key potential partners within your region and work closely with VP, Global Partnerships to identify and prioritize opportunities.


    • Guide and manage the business development activities of the assigned region to ensure that Discovery Education International’s revenue goals and objectives are exceeded.
    • Work with VP, Global Partnerships to strategize big picture, tactical plans for region, and executive on these plans to deliver dramatic growth throughout the region.
    • Create strategic plans that include a variety of market approaches: from direct MOE deals to channel partnerships to joint ventures.
    • Develop and manage sales pipeline, forecasts, and closed deals to ensure achievement of sales targets based on successful pipeline management.
    • Develop powerful value propositions and sales pitches leveraging Discovery Education’s existing services and solutions, deliver immediate value and have long-term growth potential.
    • Display a thorough understanding of Discovery Education’s solutions, business needs and revenue potential for partners in the assigned region.
    • Conduct compelling pitches, demos, and develop proposals that lead to the acquisition of new partners for the Discovery Education solution.
    • Draft prospective partner and upsell opportunities business terms, and negotiate agreements that deliver value to Discovery Education, and deliver on partners educational goals.
    • Communicate consistently with prospective partners throughout the lifecycle, escalating important issues and helping resolve using creative and resourceful ideas where needed.
    • Travel to prospect meetings when needed.



    Desired Skills and Experience

    • 10+ years of experience in business development, partnerships or alliances roles within the publishing, software, and/or edtech industry.
    • Experience in crafting complex business partnerships, including distributorships and joint ventures, and demonstrated leadership in driving these business partnerships to signature.
    • 4+ years demonstrated successful sales record in an individual contributor role.
    • Proven track record of sales success in a similar international focused role.       Ability and track record of driving business in a strategic manor and working collaboratively with internal and external parties across all the company to drive collective success.
    • Technical proficiency and strong working knowledge of the internet, computer applications and computer skills including Excel and Power Point.
    • Self-initiative and results oriented.
    • Able to influence decision makers and close using a proactive consultative approach.
    • Energetic, self-starter with strong work ethic and excellent track record of success.
    • Excellent organizational, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills.
    • Fluent in English, and other languages desirable.
    • Bachelors Degree; MBA highly desirable.
