  • Position Summary

    This role exists in the Accounting team within the International segment of Discovery. The purpose of the role is to assist the VP Tech Accounts, Reporting & Investment, Accounting Director and wider team in processing various categories of expenses for certain countries within the Discovery Networks International business.

     

    As well as processing entries, the role requires adherence to internal controls with review and analysis on ledger balances, account reconciliations and formal journal documentation.  The focus is to ensure an efficient and well-controlled environment for the US monthly close process.

     

    Other responsibilities will include working on and contributing any ad hoc general accounting projects including input into technical accounting assessments.  This role works with a wide range of stakeholders internationally from the wider accounting team, contacts in local countries, and the US corporate finance team.

    Responsibilities

    • Preparation of statutory GAAP financial annual reports for the legal entities within EMEA region ensuring all local statutory filing deadlines are met.
    • Co-ordination with local finance teams, various cross functions, internal and external auditors fulfilling country specific compliance requirements for the statutory and regulatory reporting.
    • Support accounting related projects (e.g. accounting related process improvements; implementation of new lease accounting standard).
    • Support impairment testing exercises and equity investment accounting process.

    Requirements

    Essential

    • Strong academic background and relevant experience in a general accounting role with minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a Big4 or large multinational accounting function.
    • Enjoy working as part of team.
    • Proven ability to build confidence and trust with team members, senior management and external business partners (e.g. auditors).
    • Exhibits initiative to challenge status quo and find ways of improving processes.
    • Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • A highly organised, self-starter who has the ability to prioritize duties effectively.
    • Quick learner.

    Desirable

    • Big4 experience.
    • Experience of SAP or similar ERP system.
    • SOX controlled accounting environment.
    • Working towards professional accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA) – no more than part qualified.
