Position Summary



An exciting and rare opportunity to join a truly global media company, Discovery Networks is a dynamic and forward-thinking company which is committed to providing the best programming content to its global fan base across numerous pay TV and free-to-air networks. We are looking for an educated, analytical and ambitious graduate to join our fantastic team in Istanbul as a Media Planning Executive to handle our 2 FTA channels.


The Media Planning Executive reports to Media Planning Team Spain directly and dotted lined to local Snr. Marketing Manager, and is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of on air promotion strategy, to ensure that programmes are promoted as effectively as possible to ensure maximum audience awareness of our shows. The successful candidate must have a passion for international TV programming, working proficiency in English, and an ability to learn quickly. Experience of working in a media, marketing, or broadcast environment is advantageous, but not as essential as training will be provided.


Promo Strategy and Placement

  • Put together the media plans to ensure that the programming priorities are promoted in the most effective way – including launch dates and frequencies for each promo campaign.
  • Create campaign media plans to effectively manage the available promotional airtime on the channel on a daily level
  • Using broadcast channel management software (IBMS & Gripit), to place promo campaigns into the daily flow as per defined strategy
  • Ensure campaigns are placed in schedules in accordance with RTUK guidelines
  • Advising the programme planning team on optimal clocks


  • Create the promo asset IDs in channel management system for each promo campaign and presentation element
  • Create the production list for daily graphic menu elements and make changes whenever there are schedule changes
  • Ensure that promos are delivered on time by the on-air team
  • take part in team brainstorming sessions

Commercial Analysis:

  • Prepare weekly ad sales analysis for the business, reporting on commercial levels
  • Liaise with commercial teams regarding placement and creation of sponsorships or brand partnerships and communicate to relevant stakeholders

RTUK Compliance:

  • Ensure that promo, graphics and break strategy is in line with RTUK minutage and editorial regulations
  • Work with Compliance Executive to ensure that the channel promotions are editorially compliant with RTUK regulations
  • Analyse playlists to ensure that Kamu Spotu placement and minutage is correct


  • Ensure editorial integrity of break content and messaging
  • Advise on number and durations of editorial filler required to ensure channel breaks look optimum to viewers and to reduce promo repetition
  • Monitor competitor breaks and on air strategy
  • Deputise for and assist Snr. Marketing Manager when required


  • Experience in a media, broadcast or marketing environment is advantageous, but not essential
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting data
  • High attention to detail is essential
  • An appreciation of creative issues and advertising
  • Demonstrable passion for international TV programming
  • Education - university level or higher
  • Computer literate with good Excel
  • Working proficiency in English is essential
  • Some international travel may be required
