Position Summary

Supporting the DNE GT&O senior management team with strategic operational and commercial analysis, producing recommendations and delivering operational change, while applying best practice project management. Identifying, collecting, analysing and communicating key operational and financial metrics and KPIs. Uncovering and presenting the information and opinion to aid critical decision making and planning.  Key senior team member engaged alongside London Media Operations, Regional Operations, Distribution Engineering and Broadcast Engineering, consolidating strategy and preparing financial planning and submissions while working collaboratively with FP&A and the US based GT&O Strategy and Planning team.


  • Providing support as a key member of the Media Business Operations and Regional Operations teams
  • Key role across Europe, Middle East and Africa for GT&O providing operational and commercial strategy, reporting and planning
  • Advising EVP European & Sports Technology, SVP Operations and Technology, GT&O VPs, Directors and their teams on financial governance and business processes
  • Providing commercial guidance to Regional Operations teams, including the analysis of new business opportunities and the tracking of BAU and Project spend
  • Leading projects, including those delivering operational benefits and significant cost savings or revenue growth benefits to the company
  • Reporting project progress to EVP level within GT&O and to commercial teams
  • Closely aligned with VP, Strategy and Analysis in the US Strategy and Planning team with the provision of operational and financial metrics
  • Tracking and reporting on FTR vacancies, CW allocation and provision for maternity leave, maintaining real time updates for SVP Operations and Technology
  • Assisting with the Resource Planning process, monitoring changes in resource allocation and liaising with HR and Finance
  • Assisting the commercial businesses with developing their plans including the implications of speculative, ‘green lit’ and live business requirements including the delivery of fully costed options with associated cost/benefit analysis
  • Presenting analysis and recommendations up to EVP, COO and regional GM level across Nordics, UK and Ireland, South and CEEMEA and on behalf of Discovery, SBS and Eurosport BAU operations and projects
  • Operational input to assist FP&A with the formulation and maintenance of the DNE Allocation Model
  • Actively engaged in the process of best practice business management in the department, identifying opportunities for cost reduction across the Building 2, Building 5, Eurosport and Regional Operations
  • Supporting VP Regional Operations with major procurement and RFP processes across all regions and for Discovery and Eurosport operations by analysing, levelling and presenting the operational models including vendor comparisons
  • Tracking project deliverables and spend during major projects including outsourcing and the migration of broadcast operations.
  • External representation of the company, liaising directly with current and potential vendors across all regions
  • Manage and utilise data collection and warehousing software including Broadcast databases, Microsoft Excel, and Tableau to collect, extract, transform, and aggregate operational data into standardised metrics
  • Operate reporting and analysis tools to design and deliver scheduled and on-demand reporting of operational metrics in a variety of formats including the use of data visualisation and dashboards
  • Produce clear and compelling charts, reports and data visualisations on demand to support operational analysis and resource planning
  • Integrating individual reports into Executive Dashboards and presenting the information at Executive level
  • Deliver analysis of actual-to-plan and actual-to-forecast variances for operating expenses and chargebacks
  • Supporting functional teams and coordinating with FP&A for budget preparation, monitoring and reforecasting
  • Providing analysis of forecast and budgetary options and presenting this to EVP - European & Sports Technology and his senior team
  • Taking direction from EVP - European & Sports Technology and ensuring this is accurately reported back and applied by the GT&O team
  • Significant responsibility for the quality and accuracy of operational data produced for budget holders to enable them to effectively manage their areas
  • Supporting Project Managers with approvals and tracking of project progress including the Change Control process and allocation of approved Project Contingency
  • Dotted-line management of the Team Assistant role in the collation of operational metrics and KPI data including discrepancy, reliability and rejection tracking
  • Management and collaboration with operational teams in techniques to gather and collate metric and KPI data.
  • Matrix management of resources in the delivery of strategic operational projects
  • Able to motivate and direct staff at all levels up to and including VP
  • Good awareness of company policies and ensures compliance in delivering projects



  • Degree level education and ongoing business knowledge development within a Certified Professional Services organisation
  • Experience in accounting, data analysis, data visualisation, business operations, or a related field
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent people management skills including the ability to motivate individuals via dotted-line and matrix-management relationships
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel; mastery of Formulas, Formatting, Pivot Tables, and Data Analysis and Modelling techniques. Tableau experience a plus
  • Strong presentation skills including the use of Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Understanding of Media Operations, Distribution and Broadcast Engineering
  • Able to understand and interpret financial and managerial accounts to P&L
  • Understanding of key business indicators including ROI and NPV
  • Excellent time management and willingness to be flexible based on cyclical nature of the requirements
  • Proactive individual with a ‘can do’ attitude who can work unsupervised, but knows when to escalate issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Understanding and applying business processes and best practice Project Management techniques
  • Application of Corporate Social Responsibility and able to comply with the Discovery Code of Ethics
