Position Summary

The London Copy team at Discovery Networks Northern Europe previews and prepares short form material (commercials, promos, idents) for On-Air broadcast across 18 channel feeds to the Nordic countries. The Copy Coordinator role requires close communication with the commercial and promo planning teams in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Other duties include liaising with internal and external departments to guarantee that material lives up to Discovery’s broadcast standards and is delivered within set deadlines.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all files comply with the relevant regulatory body. This will require them to develop a solid knowledge and understanding of broadcast regulations such as the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, the BCAP Advertising Code and/or the Norwegian regulator Medietilsynet.

The role will involve extensive use of Media Asset Management software VPMS and scheduling system What’sOn. This is a high intensity role which requires quick responses, superior organisational skills and clear communication to various internal and external stakeholders.

Scandinavian language skills would be beneficial for this role.


  • Liaise with Planning and Marketing teams in the Nordic territories to ensure commercial, promo and airlook material required for transmission is delivered within set deadlines.
  • Prepare short form content for scheduling by creating cutlists in VPMS and final approve QC, ensuring assets live up to broadcast standards and are compliant with the relevant broadcast regulatory body.
  • Importing edit and break point data to What’sOn for use by the scheduling department, including time codes, aspect ratio and audio configuration.
  • Liaise with presentation schedulers regarding late deliveries and promo and commercial changes.
  • Subject to channel related and seasonal fluctuations, the Copy Coordinator will also contribute to the end-to-end previewing process of long-form program material. This includes QC approval, cutlisting and setting break points in accordance with inventory and program planning requests.
  • Troubleshoot and communicate any issues with workflows and systems to team Leads and/or Supervisors.
  • Test and review software developments, upgrades and workflows as required.
  • Assist and support other teams and management within the programming department with various ad-hoc tasks as needed.


  • Previous experience from a previewing, editorial or copy controller role would be ideal. Candidates with an exceptional attitude and other relevant experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of broadcast television processes and terminology.
  • Great attention to details and ability to work to deadlines.
  • An understanding of broadcast scheduling and MAM systems.
  • Knowledge of video editing software, e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, is an advantage but not a must.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of the Microsoft office package.
  • Knowledge of Ofcom regulations, BCAP advertising codes and/or Nordic broadcasting regulations would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating efficiently with the team.
  • Norwegian/Swedish/Danish language skills would be an advantage.
