Position Summary

Working within Post Production, the Compliance Editor is primarily responsible for cutting reversioning material and cutting to clock material for transmission. This role requires advanced editing skills using Avid Media Composer, and intermediate graphics and grading skills using Avid Media Composer (Symphony) and After Effects. Storytelling abilities, understanding of Ofcom code of practices (technical and editorial) and broadcast and technical Post Production workflows are essential.

 

The Compliance Editor will support the Edit Supervisor in providing high levels of customer services to a reversioning team of 20+ producers as well as promo teams and external clients. The Compliance Editor will be required to highlight any client needs, edit sessions or workflow challenges/efficiencies to the Edit Supervisor. This role will also be required to log any technical or operational problems and report to the Edit Supervisor. This role also includes Quality Assessment work.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and reversion according to Discovery tech specs, edit instructions and style guides using Avid Media Composer
  • Ensure that all aspects of Ofcom Codes of Practice relating to the channels and broadcast are observed
  • Engage with the Reversioning, Promo teams to maintain the look and feel of the Discovery channels
  • Communicate queries or missing materials to Edit Bookings, the Edit Coordinators and the Media Manager
  • Liaise with the Programme Asset Management team (PAM)
  • Report any technical problems to the Post Production Engineering team
  • Maintain QC standards of newly created materials
  • Able to thoroughly carry out metadata entry tasks
  • An impeccable attention to detail is a must
  • Responsible for ensuring all operational procedures are followed
  • Support the Edit Supervisor in day to day operating duties by feeding back any issues
  • Prioritize and deal with certain queries as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Analyse the current workflow and propose/report anything that can be improved
  • Log any technical or operational errors they experience on their shift
  • Ad hoc duties
  • You may be required to work shifts (days, nights and weekends shifts)

 

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Avid Media composer is a must
  • Good understanding of Ofcom code of practices, the DPP and EBU regulations
  • Ability to diagnose and repair erroneous content
  • Basic level of After Effects is required
  • Basic understanding of the AVID Interplay server is a plus
  • Symphony is a distinct advantage
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize and edit in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ideally educated to degree level or recognised equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge of file based workflows and broadcast technology
  • Good operational knowledge of editing within a broadcaster
  • Strong story telling abilities
  • Excellent understanding of video, grading and audio theory
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify and prioritize problems
  • Decision making skills
  • Spanish, Italian, French, Polish, Russian or Arabic language skills would be an advantage
