The Director, Global Music Services (GMS) is responsible for the worldwide management & administration of all Discovery-owned music assets as well as growth & development of Discovery’s worldwide music publishing business.
Create and implement business processes and strategies for US & UK based music publishing units responsible for maximizing publishing revenues worldwide.
Oversee worldwide copyright administration and royalty processing functions and all related staff in the UK & US (includes Manager Copyright Administration & staff of 3 FTRs, consisting of 2 Royalty staff as well as 1 Music Cuesheet Specialist). Responsible for all works registrations, cue sheet registrations, claims & correspondence with sub-publishers & performing rights organizations (PROs) in all territories.
Preparation and oversight of GMS’s annual expense & revenue budgets & monthly forecasts in connection with the copyright & royalty administration section of GMS.
Act as adviser to senior Discovery UK management staff and recommend strategies to reduce broadcast license liabilities in EMEA territories and to increase revenues as well as strategies to increase revenue by establishing close relationships (and publisher memberships as appropriate) with all PROs throughout the world as well as coordinating strategies with DNI’s Affiliate sales group.
Manage professional relationships with PROs and Discovery’s sub-publishers throughout the world as well as with composers, third party music libraries, & their representatives.
Manage professional relationships with collective management organizations (CMOs) worldwide and create strategies to increase revenue from secondary rights.
Manage professional relationships with software vendors Soundmouse (London-based) & Counterpoint and develop streamlined processes for utilizing these applications for reporting revenue trends and capturing publishing ownership metrics.
Working in cooperation with the SVP BLA & Creative Director of GMS to develop and execute strategies to increase usage of the Discovery MusicSource music catalogue by production teams worldwide.
Manage GMS’s retail vendor relationships with Associated Production Music (US) and Universal Publishing Production Music (international).
Initiate and supervise development of and enhancements to internal systems that track, project, and report key GMS metrics, royalties, and collections activities; initiate and supervise special projects on an as-requested basis.
Extensive management experience working with music publishing administration, royalty collections & processing, PROs, CMOs, as well as management of support staff.
Close working relationships with a wide variety of music business contacts at PROs and CMOs throughout the world, music libraries, music publishers, artist management companies, and other businesses that assist Discovery in increasing its royalty revenues and promoting Discovery-owned music assets.
Degree or equivalent education preferred.
Additional legal or paralegal experience will be an asset.
Excellent organizational and IT skills required along with ability to visualize key metrics in formats that inform GMS initiatives.
Strong inter-personal and communication skills required in order to build up and maintain internal and external relationships.
Will be expected to assist SVP in developing and managing annual expense & revenue budgets ($7,000,000 to $10,000,000) across all channels (UK and EMEA) and deal with all Discovery music-using departments, while also reporting regularly to finance and senior management on music usage and related issues.
