Position Summary

The Sound Mixer will be part of the audio post production team based in London. Discovery has 14 channels in the UK alone, led by flagship pay TV brands, Eurosport, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet and free-to-air channels Quest and Quest Red. A Discovery Sound Mixer will be responsible for recording, track laying, sound-design and mixing, delivering long and short-form content. He/she will bring an expert technical and creative input to ensure every session runs smoothly and be responsible for delivering the required audio stems for transmission.

Responsibilities

  • A Sound Mixer will have the ability to work with or without supervision to record, mix and deliver audio stems for long and short-form content.
  • Have the ability to remain calm, creative and productive under pressure with very tight deadlines
  • Responsible for ensuring all Discovery’s workflow and operational procedures are followed
  • Be responsible for running and reporting any faulty equipment or operational challenges within the audio suites
  • Act as a liaison between Media Services, Broadcast Technology, and Reversioning Producers
  • Work in tandem with the Avid Editors as well as Producers and Department Managment

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of technical experience in Post Production, Audio Recording, Audio Production or equivalent experience
  • He/she will set an example of excellence for the entire staff, from respecting session start times to abiding by all standard operating procedures and naming conventions
  • Use their excellent communication skills to keep all parties involved and well informed of the project’s status
  • Advanced knowledge of the Avid Pro-tools audio systems and its capabilities.
  • Expert abilities in the areas of Mixing and Sound Design, track laying and dialogue editing
  • Experience with mixing from and supplying full audio stems
  • Ability to handle high pressure situations professionally
  • Knowledge of surround mixing techniques and workflows
  • Very Strong working knowledge of Avid Media Composer and Avid interplay workflows
  • Experience in mixing to the EBU R-128 loudness standard
  • Experience in mixing promotional material as well as long form originals
  • Experience with training other Sound Mixers is preferred
  • Musical background a plus
