This role will form a key part of the Distribution Engineering team ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of Discovery’s services. Reporting into the Distribution Operations Manager the position will provide day to day engineering support of DNE’s distribution operations, including monitoring, decoder and multiplexing operations.
Management of the Dataminer NMS is required to ensure accurate alarm handling and consistent operation by Transmission Operators and the US TOC. A pro-active approach to managing this system is required in order to maintain optimum service monitoring and minimise outage durations.
The ability to communicate technical information to third parties is essential as this role is required to act as a point of contact within the technical operations team.
Participation in engineering projects will be required along with tracking and reporting of Quality of Service issues. Monthly reporting of key distribution metrics is required to seek improvements in network performance and quality of service.
Responsibility for Representing Distribution Engineering in project meetings and communication to key stakeholders requires a polite customer focused approach along with a professional manner backed up with technical knowledge.
Close liaison with existing third party vendors will be required to ensure maximum system availability and to ensure that Discovery services are delivered to the highest possible standards. Meet regularly with key vendors to track issues, discuss future projects, keep S.O.P’s up to date.
This is a service based role where rapid response is expected and the ability to form strong working relationships across the technical teams both in the UK and beyond are viewed as key. The role demands the ability to deal effectively with suppliers and vendors to ensure Discovery’s interests are best served.
